Board Member Emily Andrews wins the Bernard Cup
Last April 1st I competed in the Robert Bernard Alpine Ski Races at Squaw Valley. When I’m not working 10 to 12 hours a day for Utility Telecom this winter ski racing is my hobby. I have competed over 38 years with the Far West Alpine Masters Program. Most of our races are in the Tahoe Basin and Mammoth Mountain in Southern California. The Squaw races consisted of two SL races and three GS races for the Bernard Cup. One cup goes to the fastest female who gets a great handicap the older her age goes and the same for a male competitor.
Ski Racing has giving me the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people who love the same sport. Living in Reno over 30 years and working in the First Aid & Safety Industry over 18 years. Almost 10 years in the Telecom Industry. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Love to ski powder and race gates. Fun to ride road bikes and mountain bike single track in Tahoe and the West.
From the Forerunner Ski Magazine”
“The Bernard Cup is awarded to the top man and women racer in the overall standings of the event, using an age-handicapping factor to compare performances across the broad range of ages competing together in masters. It was a special treat to have members of Bob Bernard’s family sharing the evening and celebrating Bob’s legacy of contributions to Masters races, as well as now-retired champion Norma Lausmann. The 2017 Bernard Cup winners are Emily Andrews (W08) and Pierre Jeangirard (M08).”
